Amazon is set to revolutionize India’s e-commerce landscape with the launch of its 15-minute delivery service, marking its entry into the country’s rapidly growing instant commerce market. This move places Amazon in direct competition with established players like Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, and BigBasket.
Pilot Launch in Bengaluru
The service will debut as a pilot program in Bengaluru later this month, aiming to deliver everyday essentials to customers within 15 minutes or less. Announcing the initiative on December 10 at Amazon’s flagship event, Smbhav, in Delhi, Samir Kumar, Country Manager for Amazon India, emphasized the company’s commitment to customer convenience.
“We will be starting a pilot to give our customers a choice to get their everyday essentials in 15 minutes or less,” said Kumar. He added, “Our strategy has always focused on ‘selection, value, and convenience,’ and our vision is to build a large profitable business in India.”
Leveraging Amazon’s Strengths
Amazon’s entry into the instant commerce space leverages its existing customer base, particularly Prime members, who are accustomed to fast delivery and premium services.
“We already have millions of customers across India, including Prime Members, who trust us and will look forward to this convenience,” Kumar noted.
The initiative reflects Amazon’s ongoing efforts to meet evolving consumer needs by offering the largest selection at the fastest speeds while maintaining competitive pricing.
A Strategic Move Under New Leadership
This ambitious step comes just two months after Kumar succeeded former Amazon India head Manish Tiwary. Under Kumar’s leadership, Amazon aims to strengthen its presence in India’s competitive e-commerce ecosystem by focusing on speed, selection, and value.

Addressing concerns about pricing and vendor favoritism, Kumar emphasized Amazon’s customer-first philosophy. “We obsess about our consumers. Protecting the client experience, offering the widest selection, best value, and fastest service is critical,” he stated.

Echoing Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ vision, Kumar reiterated the company’s commitment to fostering growth for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) alongside its expansion. “Anywhere we operate, we are scrutinized around the world… and as Jeff always says, our responsibility is to ensure that small and medium businesses are also thriving with us,” Kumar explained.
