Mumbai-based deeptech startup Manastu Space Technologies has achieved a significant milestone by delivering India’s first iBooster Green Propulsion System to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This marks a pivotal step in advancing sustainable and efficient aerospace technologies in the country.
Revolutionizing Satellite Propulsion
The iBooster Green Propulsion System is designed specifically for satellites weighing between 100–500 kg, enabling critical operations such as orbit raising, station-keeping, and deorbiting. Unlike conventional toxic fuels, the system utilizes a proprietary hydrogen peroxide-based fuel, offering enhanced performance, safety, and sustainability.
Key Innovations
Manastu’s propulsion system boasts several proprietary innovations:
- Hydrogen Peroxide-Based Fuel: Ensures a safer, environmentally friendly alternative to toxic propellants.
- Optimized Thruster Design: Enhances efficiency and precision during space operations.
- High-Temperature Catalyst Technology: Ensures seamless ignition and long-term performance under extreme space conditions.
A Milestone in Indian Aerospace
This delivery is the result of four years of intensive research and development, supported by DRDO’s Technology Development Fund (TDF). The collaboration showcases the growing role of Indian startups in bolstering the country’s aerospace and defence capabilities.
Tushar Jadhav, Co-founder of Manastu Space Technologies, expressed pride in the achievement, stating, “Delivering this technology to DRDO is a proud milestone for us. It reflects our commitment to creating greener, safer, and highly efficient solutions for space exploration.”
The DRDO emphasized the significance of the accomplishment, stating, “Manastu Space’s innovation demonstrates the transformative potential of Indian startups in deep tech. Their contribution aligns with our mission to strengthen India’s defence and satellite capabilities.”
The Visionary Founders
Founded in 2017 by Tushar Jadhav and Ashtesh Kumar, Manastu Space Technologies is at the forefront of sustainable space innovation. The startup specializes in propulsion systems and satellite technologies, addressing critical challenges in space safety and sustainability.
Upcoming Space Test
Manastu Space is preparing for a space demonstration aboard an upcoming PSLV mission by ISRO, which will test the iBooster system’s capabilities on a global stage. This milestone is expected to bolster India’s reputation in the global aerospace market.
Driving the Future of Sustainable Space Exploration
The iBooster Green Propulsion System underscores India’s growing focus on sustainability and innovation in space technology. By offering safer and more efficient alternatives, Manastu Space is paving the way for the next generation of space exploration while reducing environmental impact.
